The Taipei City Parks and Street Lights Office is holding an exhibition of poinsettias at the Taipei Youth Park, drawing crowds eager to see the traditional Christmas flower.
“As Christmas nears, we will have a chance to view the many different species and designs of poinsettias here in Taipei,” said Judith Yeh, who brought her two sons and husband to see the exhibition yesterday.
The show runs through Dec. 30 and is open from 8:20am to 11:30am and from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.
The Taipei Youth Park said that to highlight the different colors of the poinsettia leaves and their respective beauty, the exhibition displays them in three separate sections.
One section is devoted to displaying and describing the many different species of poinsettia. Another focuses on garden landscapes featuring poinsettias and the third section comprises Christmas accessories, such as decorations made from the flower.
“Poinsettias are very popular at this time of the year,” said Lee Jien-hsuen, a father of three. “I’m here to select a few to decorate my home.”
Those interested in attending the exhibition can visit the Taipei Youth Park in the Wanhua (萬華) District.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) today issued a "tsunami watch" alert after a magnitude 8.7 earthquake struck off the Kamchatka Peninsula in northeastern Russia earlier in the morning. Speeding and badly maintained roads were the main causes of a school bus accident on a rainy day in Taipei last year that severely injured two people and left 22 with minor injuries, the Taiwan Transportation and Safety Board said.
