Thundershowers, rain forecast for this afternoon

A mild morning is forecast for election day, but the afternoon is expected to be wet and stormy when a frontal system arrives

The chance of showers and thundershowers is high for election day as a frontal system is scheduled to arrive this afternoon, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said yesterday.
Daniel Wu (吳德榮), director of the CWB's forecast center, said the weather is expected to be stable in the morning, but become unstable when the frontal system approaches the nation in the afternoon. Stronger convection systems might emerge as well, which could lead to thundershowers, he said.
Wu said the rain is expected to get heavier this evening.
He said that it is difficult to predict where the most rain would fall because weather systems change quickly in the spring.
The rain is expected to subside by tomorrow afternoon, he said, however another frontal system is expected on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the whole of Taiwan was shrouded in air pollution yesterday.
Chang Shun-chin (張順欽), an environmental monitoring technician for the Environmental Protection Administration, said that as of noon yesterday, the air was graded as "polluted" or "nearly polluted" all over the nation.
The pollution was not expected to improve until noon today, after the arrival of the front, Chang said.
