Chinese fisherman stabbed to death in Wanli Township

    By Rich Chang
    STAFF REPORTER
    Tuesday, Nov 27, 2007, Page 2

A Chinese fisherman was murdered yesterday by a Chinese coworker in a Taipei County port, Coast Guard Administration officials said.

The suspect, Huang Shih-tung(黃石通), 35, is believed to have murdered his Chinese colleague, Chang Hsiao-yang (張曉陽), 33, yesterday morning, officials said.

The coast guard said that Huang and Chang both worked on a Taiwan-registered fishing boat that had anchored at a seaport in Wanli Township (萬里), Taipei County, on Sunday.

Early yesterday, Huang and Chang quarreled after drinking on the boat with other Chinese fishermen, the officials said.

An angered Huang grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Chang in the neck, the officials said. Chang died after arriving at a nearby hospital.

Huang fled the boat after the stabbing, but was soon arrested by Coast Guard officers from the township.

The officials said that as Taiwan is short on fishermen, Chinese have been allowed to work on Taiwanese fishing boats.
