Police arrest Internet photo blackmail suspect

Kaohsiung police yesterday arrested a man who allegedly met a number of women via the Internet and then blackmailed them with explicit pictures he took of them.

"Police have discovered five victims, one of whom has suffered psychological problems because of the blackmail," the Kaohsiung police officer in charge of the case, Kuo Ting-tai (郭丁太), told reporters yesterday.

Police arrested Lin Yung-chih (林勇志), 28, at his residence, and found a number of explicit pictures of victims in his computer.

Police said Lin would be charged with obtaining property by using threats (恐嚇取財罪).

A 25-year-old woman known only as Tsai told police that she met Lin through the Internet late last year and they had started dating.

Lin took a number of pictures of her when they had sex, she said.

Tsai told police that he often asked her for money and she decided to breakup with him after discovering he was dating several other women at the time of their relationship.

Lin then threatened her by saying that he would post explicit pictures of her on the Internet and e-mail them to her friends, Tsai said.

Police said Lin had committed a number of similar crimes over the last seven years.
