The Ministry of Education introduced new changes yesterday to its affirmative action program for the country's Aborigines. From now on, Aboriginal students will get additional points on their entrance exams for demonstrating some knowledge of their tribal language and culture. "The goal is to provide an impetus for young people to learn their tribal language," said Icyang Parod, the Vice Director of the Council of Indigenous Peoples. In addition to a different textbook and CD-ROM for each language, students will be supported by online multimedia tutorials. The first exam will take place in March next year. The Aboriginal students who pass the test will see their high-school or undergraduate entrance test scores boosted by 35 percent. Aborigine students who don't pass the test still receive an additional 25 percent in points as according to the affirmation action program.
