Taiwan Quick Take: `God of storms' coming
Saturday, Jul 01, 2006, Page 4
A new low pressure system lurking in an area east of the Philippines may increase in intensity and form into a typhoon over the next two days, the Central Weather Bureau reported yesterday. There is a possibility that the tropical depression could develop into a typhoon and affect Taiwan directly, according to the bureau. Should the system develop into a typhoon, it would be the second in the Pacific region this year and would be named Ewiniar, which means the "God of Storms" in a Micronesian language. Meanwhile, the Weather Forecast Center predicted that 24 to 26 typhoons would form in the Western North Pacific and the South China Sea areas this year.
