Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Huang Wei-cher (黃偉哲) urged the government yesterday to set up an effective mechanism for pet management and disease prevention. Huang, who convened a press conference at the Legislative Yuan to call attention to what he described as "the pet problem," said that an increasing variety of pets are being kept, but the government has not taken effective measures to control communicable diseases and prevent "animal-to-human" infection. Wang Huan-feng, a division chief of the Center for Disease Control under the Department of Health, said that the government has already set up a pet monitoring system.
