Chen Chun-hsiu’s two-run double sparked a four-run seventh as the Lamigo Monkeys rallied from one down to lead by three, holding on to defeat the Uni-President Lions 8-7 at the Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium last night.
It was the third game of the season in which the Lamigo slugger has registered more than one RBI as he pushes his RBI total to 11 for the season.
“I got the pitch that I was looking for, so I was able to drive it down the third-base line,” Chen said after the game.

He finished the day with a pair of hits and as many RBIs, while pushing his average to .278.
In a game that featured three lead changes, it was the Primates who struck first when Chan Chih-yao and Lin Chih-sheng connected on a pair of solo blasts off Lions starter Liao Wen-yang in the top of the first to spot their team a quick 2-0 advantage.
The home Cats answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first with back-to-back doubles by Lin Chih-hsiang and Luo Kuo-lung that made it 2-1.
After a scoreless second, the Monkey hitters went to work against Liao once again, with Kuo Yen-wen bouncing a sharp single through the right side of the infield to score the runner from second to give his club a 3-1 lead, only to see the Cats tie it with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on Luo’s two-run double off Lamigo starter Hsu Ming-chieh.
Uni-President took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, with Deng Chih-wei leading off the inning with a clean triple off Hsu and two batters later when Chu Yuan-ching bounced into a double play.
The 5-4 lead lasted less than two innings, as the Primates swung again with a four-run seventh to garner a 7-4 margin, which was reduced to 7-5 by the Lions in the bottom of the inning, when Deng led off with a double and scored two plays later.
The visitors managed to score what ended up being the game-winner in the top of the eighth, when Lin Chih-sheng tripled off reliever Lin Yueh-ping with two outs and scored on Kuo’s clutch single on the following play to go up by three.
That proved too much for the Lions offense to overcome, despite being able to plate two in the bottom of the eighth off Monkeys reliever Huang Wei-sheng before closer Lin Po-yo tossed a perfect eighth and ninth to preserve the wild win.
Picking up his first victory of the season was Hsu, who lasted seven innings, despite serving up five runs on eight hits, thanks to an offense that bailed him out on two separate occasions.
Tagged with his third loss of the season was Liao, who fell victim to a generous bullpen that coughed up the lead late in the contest to deny the starter his first win of the season.
