The Pittsburgh Penguins rallied for a 4-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Friday to extend their winning streak to 11 games.
Tomas Vokoun made 33 saves, while Brandon Sutter broke a deadlock early in the third period for the win. Joe Vitale and Chris Kunitz had second-period goals for Pittsburgh, which erased a pair of one-goal deficits after a sluggish first period. Pascal Dupuis added an empty-net goal with less than a second remaining, with an assist from Vokoun.
Mark Streit put the Islanders ahead in the first, and Josh Bailey answered Vitale’s goal to make it 2-1 in the second.
Detroit’s Justin Abdelkader scored his first NHL hat-trick and Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and two assists as the Red Wings ended Anaheim’s club-record 13-game home winning streak with a 5-1 win.
Jimmy Howard allowed fewer than three goals for the eighth time in his past nine starts and had 33 saves.
