The Lamigo Monkeys remained unbeaten at 5-0 this season with a 9-2 victory over the Brother Elephants at the Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium last night.
With the game tied at 2-2, Lin Chih-sheng’s clutch single with runner on second drove in the go-ahead run in what ended up being a four-run seventh.
That was more than ample run support for Lin Jing-ming to pick up his first win of the season as the right-hander out of Fu Jen Catholic University pitched 2-1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the job done.

The Monkeys jumped to a quick 1-0 lead in the opening inning against Elephants starter Tseng Song-wei and doubled their lead to 2-0 two innings later on the strength of Chung Cheng-yo’s RBI-single.
Held scoreless by Monkeys starter Huang Chin-chih through the fifth, the Elephant hitters finally got on the board in the sixth on Peng “Chia Chia” Cheng-min’s run-scoring single and Lin Jing-ming’s bases-loaded walk to tie the game, setting the stage for the Monkeys’ game-deciding seventh inning.
Lions 6, Bulls 1
Danel Reichert went the distance in his first start of the season for the Uni-President Lions as the Cats downed the Sinon Bulls 6-1 at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium yesterday.
The American righty allowed a lone run on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts in a solid outing to help his team improve to 3-2 for the year.
Offensively for the Lions, Chu Yuan-chin’s two-for-four batting led an opportunistic lineup that took advantage of three big errors by the Sinon defense that led to four unearned runs for the Lions.
Taking the tough loss despite pitching 6-1/3 innings of four-run ball (only two earned) on six hits was Sinon starter Lin Ying-jeh, who fell to 0-2 for the season.
Top seeds Alexander Zverev of Germany and American Coco Gauff on Tuesday advanced to the third round of the Canadian Open after both players were pushed hard by their opponents. World No. 3 Zverev, playing in his first match since his first-round loss at Wimbledon, was far from his best, but emerged with a 7-6 (8/6), 6-4 win over Adam Walton under the lights in Toronto. Momentum shifted firmly in Zverev’s favor when he won a 52-shot rally in the first set tiebreak and he sealed the win on a double fault by the Australian in the second set. “It was a very

Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen on Thursday said that he is staying with the Red Bull team next year, ending months of speculation over his future. “Some people just like to stir the pot, some people just like to create drama, but, for me, it’s always been quite clear, and also for next year,” the four-time champion said ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. “I’m discussing with the team already the plans — the things that we want to change for next year, so that means that I’m also staying with the team for next year,” he said. Alex Michelsen on Thursday rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 upset victory over third-seeded Lorenzo Musetti in the men’s singles, converting his seventh match point to reach the fourth round of the Canadian Open. Michelsen reached the last 16 of a Masters 1000 for the first time with his second win over a top-10 player in eight attempts. The 20-year-old American survived nearly 50 unforced errors and converted just two of nine break chances, but it was enough to vanquish Italy’s Musetti, a two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist ranked 10th in the world. “It feels really good,” the 26th-ranked Michelsen said. “I’ve put
