Landry shot in the leg
Houston Rockets forward Carl Landry was shot in the left leg while driving near his home early Tuesday. The injury was minor, and the team said Landry was treated at a hospital and released. The Rockets said they expected Landry to return to action in one to three weeks. The shooting occurred about 2:30am, a few hours after the Rockets returned from a game at New Orleans. Houston police said Landry was driving his SUV southbound on a city street, when a northbound car swerved into his path and collided with his vehicle. Landry and the driver of the other vehicle made U-turns and the vehicles collided again and Landry’s SUV hit a utility pole. Landry got out of his SUV and was shot by one of the two occupants of the car, police said.

Miley sets European record
Britain’s growing strength in women’s swimming was underlined again on Tuesday when 19-year-old Hannah Miley set a new European record in the 200m individual medley at the national championships in Sheffield, England. Miley, already the European record holder in the 400m medley, clocked 2 minutes, 9.59 seconds to break Ukrainian star Yana Klochkova’s nine-year-old record by more than a second. The teenager, who had finished sixth in the 400m medley at the Beijing Olympics, put her record down to a hugely-improved breast stroke. “After the Olympics I just took two weeks off and wanted to get back in the pool and become bigger, faster and stronger,” she said. “It shows what I am doing is working and hopefully I can carry it through and make sure I can keep working. I’ve been working on my breaststroke all my life — it was my worst stroke when I was younger ... We’ve been working 15 years on it.”

Ericsson 3 passed the Horn at 12:22pm GMT, more than two hours ahead of Ericsson 4, skippered by Brazilian Olympic gold medalist Torben Grael.

Morehead beat Alabama
Morehead State never trailed during a 58-43 victory over Alabama State for its first NCAA college basketball victory in 25 years in Dayton, Ohio, on Tuesday. Morehead played its way into a first-round rematch on Friday with top-seeded Louisville. Alabama State hoped to set the tone defensively behind shot blocker Grlenntys Chief Kickingstallionsims Jr, a center whose reach is as long as his name. He swatted away three shots, but wasn’t much help where he was needed most — on the boards.
Jobe Bellingham on Tuesday admitted to having “anxieties” on following in brother Jude’s footsteps after joining Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Jobe Bellingham, 19, is two years younger than Jude Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid in 2023 after three years at Dortmund. A centerpiece of the England national team, Jude Bellingham has emerged as one of the best players in the world in recent seasons. The younger Jobe Bellingham joined Dortmund in June from Sunderland after their promotion to the English Premier League. He admitted he understood what the perception would be ahead of the move to Germany. “It’s something you do think about.
Before Tuesday’s 7-2 win at the Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy suggested “most people couldn’t tell you five players on our team.” A look at the standings would indicate more Brewers players soon will be recognized by more fans. After all, it is difficult to overlook a team that not only continues to extend their lead in the National League Central, but also boasts the best record in the majors. “What we’re doing in here right now is special,” right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta said after allowing only four hits and one run in five innings, while setting a career high with
