Cologne draw 1-1 with Bielefeld in Bundesliga clash

Cologne’s Kevin Pezzoni, left, challenges Bielefeld’s Thorben Marx during their Bundesliga match on Friday in Cologne, Germany.

Cologne were unable to build on a surprising victory last week against Bayern Munich in a 1-1 draw at home against Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga on Friday with both goals coming in the first half.

Cologne grabbed the lead at the RheinEnergieStadion after 15 minutes through a fine header from captain Petit into the left corner.

Bielefeld leveled the score in the 43rd minute after a blunder by full-back Miso Brecko. His back pass to goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon bounced off defender Pedro Geromel for Christopher Katongo to strike the loose ball home from 20m.

Friday’s draw gave Cologne 29 points after 22 rounds to leave Christoph Daum’s team in 10th place.

“We wanted to win this game, but Bielefeld played really tough and in the end I think we have to be satisfied with the point,” Daum said.
