Big-hitting Alvaro Quiros of Spain won the Portugal Masters by three strokes on Sunday and dedicated his victory to Seve Ballesteros who is fighting for his life after surgery to remove a brain tumor.
The 25-year-old from Cadiz carded a final round 68 for a 19 under par total at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course while European Order of Merit leader Robert Karlsson had to settle for a share of third place after carding a 71. The giant Swede conceded second spot to 1999 British Open champion Paul Lawrie of Scotland who shot a 67 to finish three strokes behind the winner. Quiros said his thoughts were with compatriot Ballesteros who is still recovering from surgery in a Madrid hospital.
Quiros was up early on Sunday to complete his third round after a thunderstorm forced play to be abandoned early on Saturday and in completing five holes he moved one shot ahead of the field. In his final round, he birdied the opening hole with a 50 foot putt but then bogeyed the second.

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
