However compatriot Pan Li-chun went down 11-9, 9-11, 4-11, 8-11, 6-11 to Melek Hu of Turkey.
The 24-year-old Huang beat Bakula 11-9, 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9 to set up a clash with Ni Xia Lian of Luxembourg.

The 45-year-old Shanghai-born Ni is not lacking in experience having competed in the World Championships as long ago as 1983.
