Taiwan’s Little League baseball team yesterday pocketed their third straight win at the Asia-Pacific Little League Championships by defeating Thailand 5-1.
Twelve teams are competing in the tournament at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, which began on Saturday and continues through Thursday.

The competing teams are from Australia, China, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
Taiwan’s team is from Dongyuan Elementary School in Taipei’s Wanhua District (萬華).
In yesterday’s game against Thailand, Taiwan’s Tsai Cheng-yu hit a homer in the second inning to give his team a 5-0 lead. Thailand scored one run in the sixth inning, but it was too late to turn the tide.
The 5-1 win against Thailand was Taiwan’s third victory in three days.
NO MERCY
On Saturday they trounced China 22-2, with their runs including three homers. In their second game on Sunday they defeated India 16-0, with batter Tsai contributing two home runs.
Taiwan’s team will have to overpower two very strong competitors — South Korea today and Hong Kong on Wednesday — if they want to win the tournament and claim the right to represent the Asia-Pacific region in the Little League World Series.
The series will be held in the US next month, at South Williamsport in Pennsylvania.
