The President Lions beat the La New Bears 10-2 in Kaohsiung in the opening game of the Chinese Professional Baseball League 2007 Taiwan Series yesterday.
The Lions defended well against the Bears, giving up only two runs in the first seven innings from starting pitcher Nelson Figueroa.
However, the Lions could only manage a single home run hit by Kuo Dai-chi (³郭岱琦) in the top of the fourth inning.
The Lions launched a scoring drive in the top of the sixth inning to score five runs.
The Bears only started scoring in the bottom of the sixth when Kit Pellow hit a two-run homer, pushing the game to 2-6.
The Lions again launched an attack in the top of the ninth by scoring four runs in half an inning, leading the game by the wide margin of 10-2.
With no scoring for the rest of the ninth inning, the Lions ended the match as 10-2 winners.
After the match Bears coach Hung Yi-chung (¬x¤@¤¤) said his players were "too nervous and thus did not perform well."
