Reserve Jamal Crawford scored 19 points, and the New York Knicks took advantage of O'Neal's absence to beat the defending NBA champions 100-76.
The Heat announced shortly before tipoff that O'Neal would undergo surgery for torn knee cartilage.
The Knicks' Eddy Curry made all five of his shots in the third quarter, when they shot 78 percent and outscored Miami 34-14. Curry finished with 13 points. The Knicks got 46 points from their reserves and outshot the Heat 52 percent to 36.
Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 20 points. Alonzo Mourning, starting for O'Neal, managed only seven points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes. Antoine Walker, Dorell Wright and James Posey shot a combined 2-for-21.

At Indianapolis, Vince Carter scored 28 points and Clifford Robinson, the oldest player in the NBA, added a season-high 14 to lead New Jersey past Indiana.
Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal, in foul trouble and held scoreless in the first half, had 13 of his 17 points in the third quarter as the Pacers came back from 14 points down and took a 75-71 lead early in the final period.

At Cleveland, LeBron James scored 37 points and Zydrunas Ilgauskas matched a season high with 14, leading Cleveland past Minnesota for its fifth straight win.

At Memphis, Tennessee, Dirk Nowitzki scored 26 points, Erick Dampier added 22 points and 15 rebounds to help Dallas win its fourth straight.
Dampier was 8-of-11 from the field, many of his points coming on dunks or second-chance points, sending the Grizzlies to their sixth straight loss.
The win puts the Mavericks at the .500 mark for the first time this season.

At Phoenix, Leandro Barbosa, playing in place of ailing Steve Nash, had 26 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, Amare Stoudemire added 23 points and 10 boards, and Phoenix beat Philadelphia.
The Suns, who began the day in last place in the Pacific Division, beat the 76ers, who were tied for the lead in the Atlantic Division, for the 18th time in 20 home games.
