American racing driver Danica Patrick is angry about plans she claims punish her for being thin.
The 26-year-old is one of just two women in the Indy-car championship. She’s upset by a new rule to equalize the weights of each car based on driver size. Extra weight will be added to cars for lighter racers and trimmed for heavier ones.
Some other drivers had said Patrick had an edge because of her lighter size. She is just 158cm tall and weighs in at 45kg, making her the slimmest Indy-car racer.
“If someone is going to take the hit it’s going to be me,” Patrick said. “It's disappointing the league decided to do that.”
Venezuela’s Milka Duno is the second woman in the 29-driver championship, which began a new season late last month.
Patrick is in her fourth season and still searching for her first victory.
