Thai police have arrested 15 North Koreans for illegally entering Thailand. Two of the refugees were young boys, an official has said.
Police found the North Koreans in a bus in Chiang Rai, around 800km north of Bangkok, following a tip-off from someone on the bus, they said.
The group had 10 women, three men and two young boys. They told Thai police that they were from North Korea by using a South Korean translator. Police did not give out any other information.
Serious food and energy shortages have made more and more North Koreans leave their country, and many of them have been going to northern Thailand after crossing through China and Laos.
The number of North Koreans arrested for illegal entry into Thailand last year jumped from 50 in 2005 to more than 400 in 2006. (AFP)
警方逮捕了十五名非法入境泰國的北韓難民。一位官員表示，其中有兩位是小男孩。
警方表示，他們接獲一名搭乘巴士者的密報後，隨即在距曼谷北方約八百公里的清萊巴士上發現這些北韓人。
其中共有十位女子，三名男子與兩名男孩。他們透過南韓翻譯員告訴泰國警方他們來自北韓。警方並未透露其他細節。
糧食與能源的嚴重短缺已迫使愈來愈多人逃離北韓，許多人更越過中國與寮國逃往北泰。
