It's the year of the dog, as if you didn't know, and it looks like a good one for the hard-hitting king of the mic MC Hot Dog. Along with sidekick Chang Chen-yue (張震嶽), the rapper was invited by camp TV host Kevin Tsai (蔡康永) to appear on his show earlier this week and discuss an issue close to their hearts, namely beautiful Taiwanese women or taimei.
The two perfor-mers, who are successfully fronting a mission to turn around the low-class Taiwanese or taike look and attitude into something hip, were asked for their top 10 of Taiwan's most decorous dames. Among the surprises was the lack of supermodels on the list. Tsai Shu-zhen (蔡淑臻) was the only one to make it, in ninth place. She was said to have earned her taimei credentials by managing to look like a piano bar hostess. Top of the taimeis was actress Shu Qi (舒淇). Second was the big-busted minor model Yin Qi (殷掎), Little S (小S) came third, Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) got a mention for her Japanese porn-model look and A-mei (張惠妹) just made it into the top five because of her garish skirts. For a further flavor of taike life check out Hot Dog's refreshing album Wake Up and the hit song I Love TW Girls (我愛台妹), reviewed by the Taipei Times on Jan. 26, p14.
Speaking of Japanese ho's, newsreader Patty Hou (侯佩岑) was not commenting on a nasty video that is doing the rounds featuring an X-rated model who is said by a Liberty Times interviewee to look "80 percent the same." To add to the confusion, the Japanese actress is called "Hou Pei-cheng" (猴配成), a play on Patty's name. Released on the "Real Shodo" or "Climax Shodo" labels, the video can be downloaded on a variety of Chinese-language Web sites. The fake ho is now eagerly being sought out so that she can make her Taiwanese debut appearance in the flesh.
But the real Hou was not to be found on Valentine's Day, Tuesday, despite elaborate paparazzi preparations and a stakeout outside her apartment on Renai Road, Taipei. Earlier in the day she dropped off a present at the clinic where Little S is recovering from childbirth, but Hou later disappeared, presumably to have a tryst with her lover Jay Chou (周杰倫), who was also AWOL from media duties.
Other showbiz visitors to Little S' bedside were sister Big S (大S) Makiyo, Elly and Kevin Tsai (who dropped off a present that he had bought on a recent Paris trip). Also at what was dubbed the Valentine's "counting gold" party by a Chinese-language daily was Wang Lee-hom (王力宏). The singer has repeatedly denied gossip that he is having a fling with A-mei and insisted to any hack that would suspend disbelief long enough that he spent the night with his grandma. Valentine's Day is not just for lovers, he was reported as saying, it's also for friends and family.
Innocence is everything in the world of Mando-pop it would appear, so no need to spare a sigh for A-mei, who appeared on Zhang Fei's (張菲) Valentine's Day show and fended off questions about her love life by suggesting she had not had a boyfriend for five years. Clearly Wang and A-mei are a match made in Mando-heaven.
