JA Happ issued a bases-loaded walk to Andre Ethier as the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied with two runs in the eighth for a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia on Friday in baseball’s National League Championship Series.
With the victory the Dodgers evened the best-of-seven series with the reigning World Series champions at one game apiece.
The series shifts to Philadelphia for game three today.

Philadelphia pitcher Pedro Martinez, making his first playoff start since 2004, stifled the Dodgers for seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits.
He threw 87 pitches and didn’t walk a batter, but Phillies manager Charlie Manuel chose to pinch hit for him with one out and Philadelphia leading 1-0.
Philadelphia’s bullpen couldn’t hang onto the lead.
Los Angeles trailed 1-0 when Casey Blake opened the eighth with a single off the outstretched glove of third baseman Pedro Feliz.
Ronnie Belliard’s bunt single got past losing pitcher Park Chan-ho and first baseman Ryan Howard.
Russell Martin followed with a grounder to Feliz, who made a good throw to second baseman Chase Utley. But Utley threw away the relay, an error that allowed pinch-runner Juan Pierre to score the tying run from the second.
Pinch-hitter Jim Thome singled off Scott Eyre, then Rafael Furcal drew a walk from Ryan Madson that loaded the bases.
Happ struck out Matt Kemp, but the rookie then walked Ethier.
Philadelphia used five relievers in the eighth inning, but closer Brad Lidge never made it to the mound.
Philadelphia’s Howard had homered off Vicente Padilla for the game’s only run until the eighth.
Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez went 0 for 4 with a strikeout and was retired twice on pop-ups by his pal Martinez.
The contest started 16 hours after the Phillies triumphed 8-6 in a game one that saw the teams combine for 22 hits. With Padilla and Martinez on the mound, however, offense was limited.
Padilla, who was inked by the Dodgers in August after being dumped by Texas, allowed one run and four hits in seven-and-a-third innings, striking out six.
“It’s my first time playing in front of a big crowd like this in a game that’s more important than I’ve ever pitched in my life, and I was very emotional,” Padilla said.
Martinez, who was let go by the Mets last season, struck out three with no walks. The 37-year-old three-time Cy Young award winner hadn’t played in the postseason since game three of the 2004 World Series with Boston.
From Australia, China and the US, Rafael Nadal fans on Monday descended on a chilly and damp Roland Garros, hoping to inspire their “superhero” to victory at the French Open. In the end, many were reduced to tears as the 14-time champion slumped to a straight-sets loss to Alexander Zverev in his first-ever defeat in the opening round, likely signaling the end of the 38-year-old’s Grand Slam adventure in Paris. Nadal matched world No. 4 Zverev for long periods on a packed Court Philippe Chatrier, but slipped to a 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 loss as he was beaten for just the fourth
Taiwanese badminton ace Tai Tzu-ying on Monday announced her withdrawal from the Singapore Open, a day before the start of a tournament seen as crucial in earning Olympic ranking points. The world No. 4 shuttler, who was seeded fourth in Singapore, wrote on social media that she needed more time to recover from an injury to her left knee that has been bothering her since November last year. She had been trying to play through it to pick up more ranking points and improve her seeding for the Paris Olympics in late July. Under Olympic rules, any of the qualified competitors in the

Horses have always been the main event here, where the oldest active sporting venue in the country, the Saratoga Race Course, stands at the heart of the town of about 30,000. After rain stopped play on the outer courts at Roland Garros early on Thursday afternoon, fans were in for more disappointment when organizers banned alcohol in the stands as unruly behavior came under scrutiny. Belgian David Goffin had accused partisan fans at the French Open of “total disrespect” when he took on a local favorite in the first round and said one of them had spat gum at him, while Iga Swiatek urged spectators not to scream during rallies. The comments appeared to spark tournament director Amelie Mauresmo into action and the former world No. 1 said it was time to put
