Sinher to expand production to meet changes in market

By Helen Ku  /  Staff reporter

PC peripherals supplier Sinher Technology Inc (鑫禾) on Tuesday said it plans to expand manufacturing of hinge products to include tablets, as consumers increasingly use mobile devices.

“Sinher’s product design capabilities are strong. We are confident that we will be able to meet the challenges posed by the transformation of the PC industry and take the opportunities provided during this era of change,” company chairman Suting Su (蘇丁鴻) said at a press conference for its planned initial public offering.

Despite the optimistic outlook, the company has decided to push back its debut on the main bourse from May 7 to later in the quarter because of uncertainties in global markets, Su said.

Sinher’s future shares are tentatively priced at NT$60.

Founded in 2002, the company — which primarily makes notebook hinges, but also manufactures other components — counts Quanta Computer Inc (廣達), Compal Electronics Inc (仁寶), Wistron Corp (緯創), Inventec Corp (英業達) and Pegatron Corp (和碩) among its clients.

Notebook hinges accounted for 90 percent of Sinher’s sales last year, said the company, which is 27 percent owned by Catcher Technology Co (可成科技).

Sinher has also started making hinge products used in Acer Inc (宏碁) and Asustek Computer Inc (華碩) transformable notebooks, with Su forecasting that these types of hinges would drive sales this year.

Last year, Sinher’s sales grew 31.7 percent annually to NT$1.99 billion (US$66.69 million) from NT$1.51 billion, as net profit nearly doubled to NT$379.58 million, or NT$6.22 in earnings per share.
