Acer Inc (宏碁), the world’s No. 4 PC brand, yesterday launched its first low-cost tablet during the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Acer said the new budget tablet, named Iconia B1-A71, is an affordable entry-level device that provides the highest quality of its price bracket.
Available at a starting price of less than US$150, the Iconia B1 is equipped with 7-inch multi-touch screen with 1,024 x 600 resolution, powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor manufactured by MediaTek Inc (聯發科) and running Google Inc’s Android Jelly Bean operating system.
Acer said that the Iconia B1 tablet is targeted at young or new tablet users, or at families looking for a mobile device to use with their children.
The launch of the Iconia B1 is seen by the market as Acer’s lates attempt to break into the small-sized tablet market to compete with Asustek Computer Inc (華碩電腦), Amazon.com Inc and Google — the latter have seen success with their respective Fire and Nexus 7 tablets.
The Taiwanese PC maker did not disclose when the new model would go on sale in Taiwan, nor did it reveal the entire price range for the product.
