Taiwan Mobile Co (¥xÆW¤jô¤j), the nation¡¦s second-largest telecom operator, plans to venture into the entertainment industry, moving toward a digital convergence model that would combine communications, cable TV and entertainment, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News quoted company president Harvey Chang (±i§µ«Â) as saying on Monday.
Chang made the remarks in an interview with the Chinese Television System (CTS) that aired on Sunday night.
Chang said Taiwan Mobile would focus on producing quality entertainment programs and could eventually branch out into other sectors.
In the same interview, Chang said ADSL fees would drop if Chunghwa Telecom Co (¤¤µØ¹q«H), which has a near network monopoly, offered users the freedom to choose among service providers.
Chang said monthly fees for an ADSL connection were about NT$700 (US$21.09) and would drop at least NT$100 as a result of greater competition, Chang said.
Chunghwa Telecom, which controls 80 percent of the local ADSL market, charges around NT$700 a month for its ADSL service, whereas some other cable TV operators charge about NT$500 a month, Chang said.
