At NT$12,000, the nation's most expensive bouquet of 99 roses for Valentine's Day costs more than twice as much as it did in the past two months, survey results released by the Consumers' Foundation yesterday showed.
The foundation said that a florist in the south had increased its price for the bouquet from NT$5,500 in late December to NT$12,000 today -- the most expensive among 47 florists surveyed.
A florist in central Taiwan tripled its price from between NT$1,800 and NT$2,000 to between NT$4,000 and NT$6,000, the foundation said, urging couples to compare prices before ordering roses.
The foundation praised Ming Sheng (民生花苑) in Pingtung City for bucking the trend by cutting its bouquet price by NT$500 to NT$3,500 today.
The survey found that 14, or 30 percent, of the 47 florists polled had more than doubled their rose prices. Six shops, or 13 percent, had left their prices unchanged.
