South Korea's Samsung SDI fell to No. 2 after shipments declined 18 percent annually to 39.19 million handset screens, followed by Japan's Sharp Corp with 33.9 million in shipments, the report said.
Wintek, based in Taichung, spent a combined NT$15.1 billion on buying two factories from HannStar, a thin-film-transistor (TFT-LCD) panel maker, in September last year and August this year, to build a bigger presence in the TFT-LCD area.
Wintek shipped 7 percent more TFT-LCD handset panels in the third quarter, making up around 19 percent of its total shipments, compared to the second quarter, DisplaySearch said.
Global mobile phone panel shipments increased by 13 percent annually to 333 million units in the July to September period, DisplaySearch said.
Growth momentum is expected to carry over into this quarter, boosting total shipments to 1.24 million units this year, up 9 percent year on year.
Revenues are expected to increase by 8 percent as a result of falling panel prices.

POM copolymers can partially replace metals such as copper and zinc, and have various applications, including in auto parts, electronics and medical equipment, the Chinese ministry has said. In January, it said initial investigations had determined that dumping was taking place, and implemented preliminary
