UMC says sales fell 10.9% last month from October

United Microelectronics Corp (UMC, 聯電) yesterday said it made NT$9.03 billion (US$280 million) in sales last month, down 10.9 percent from NT$10.13 billion in October.

However, last month's sales were up 3.90 percent year-on-year, the world's second largest contract microchip maker said. Sales so far this year had risen 2.7 percent from the year-earlier period to NT$98.31 billion, UMC said.

Stopping short of directly forecasting sales for the fourth quarter to this month, UMC said at an Oct. 31 investor conference that its wafer shipments in the period are expected to fall 9.0 percent from the third-quarter level.

The fourth-quarter average selling price in US dollar terms is seen as falling 1 percent from the preceding three months, it said.
