    The production value of Taiwan's optoelectronics industry is expected to reach NT$1.46 trillion (US$45 billion) this year, accounting for 14 percent of the global market, according to statistics released yesterday by the organizers of the Photonics Festival Taiwan 2007.

    Speaking at the opening ceremony in Taipei, Chen Chao-yi (³¯¬L¸q), director-general of the Industrial Development Bureau, said the production of Taiwan's optoelectronics industry totaled NT$1.27 trillion last year, with both the value of goods produced and a global market share surpassing that of South Korea.

    National Science Council Deputy Minister Tai Chien (À¹Á¾) said he hopde that the Photonics Festival can be combined with Computex Taipei in a bid to further strengthen its competitiveness.
