A set of limited edition New York Yankees pitcher Wang Chien-ming (王建民) and Los Angeles Dodgers Kuo Hong-chih (郭泓志) bobblehead dolls will go on sale nationwide next Saturday at 13 branches of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store.
A spokesman for the chain said yesterday that it had received permission from US Major League Baseball Properties to sell the Wang and Kuo dolls in this country.
One thousand dolls of each man will be available for NT$500 apiece, with another 6,500 Wang dolls and 4,000 Kuo dolls to be sold in other countries, the spokesman said.
Sales of the dolls will be limited to one of each per customer, he said, and the dolls will be delivered next month.
Anyone hoping to get either the Wang doll or the Hua doll the serial number 1 will have to head to the Hsinyi New Life Square at the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi's Xinyi branch, he said.
Wang and Kuo's popularity have made them favorites of firms looking for celebrity endorsements.
The Taipei Rapid Transit Corp (台北捷運公司) has released limited edition MRT cards featuring the two players' photos, while McDonald's Restaurants (Taiwan) Co put Wang's pictures on its breakfast cards.
Wang's face appears on credit cards and ATM cards issued by E. Sun Bank (玉山銀行), as well as ads for the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung City.
