Far Eastern offers weekday discounts

By Jessie Ho  /  STAFF REPORTER

Far Eastern Air Transport Corp (遠東航空) announced yesterday it would offer discount tickets on the Taipei to Kaohsiung and Taipei to Tainan routes on weekdays, hoping to win back business passengers from the high-speed railway.

Starting next Monday and continuing to the end of next month, tickets for Far Eastern Air's Taipei to Tainan flights from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 5pm will be priced at NT$1,588 (US$48), down from NT$1,960, the carrier said in a statement.

Tickets for Taipei to Kaohsiung flights from Monday to Thursday after 6pm will cost NT$1,688, down from NT$2,120. High-speed rail tickets from Taipei to Tainan cost NT$1,350, and Taipei to Kaohsiung tickets cost NT$1,490.

To receive the discount, passengers must book on Far Eastern Air's Web site or with Ezfly, an online travel agent.

The promotion has been extended from a weekend discount program that Far Eastern Air launched for March 15 to April 30, during which Far Eastern Air offers 29 percent off for passengers flying from Taipei to Kaohsiung and from Taipei to Tainan on weekends.

The campaign has increased the load factor -- the ratio of paid passenger seats to total seating capacity -- by 25 percent and largely reduced the losses posted after the launch of the high-speed rail, Far Eastern Air said in the statement.
