The Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park (新竹科學園區) is scheduled to hold a two-day technology symposium tomorrow and Friday to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the park's administration said in a statement yesterday.
Morris Chang (張忠謀), chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (台積電) and Luis Sanz, director-general of the International Association of Science Parks, are scheduled to give keynote speeches, the statement said.
Tomorrow's activities will include two industrial seminars and panel discussions on the outlook for the high tech sector, especially semiconductor and TFT-LCD manufacturing, while on Friday, representatives from similar parks in the US, Sweden, France, Spain, South Korea and Japan will discuss the role of science parks as well as their impacts on regional economies and global cooperation.
The Hsinchu science park is home to 384 high-tech companies.
The park is expected to churn out products worth NT$1,15 trillion (US$34.33 billion) this year, up 8.49 percent from NT$1.06 trillion last year, James Lee (李界木), director-general of the Hsinchu Science Park Administration, predicted in August.
Taiwan is currently building or expanding three other parks -- the Central Taiwan Science Park (中部科學園區), the Southern Taiwan Science Park (南部科學園區) and the Ilan Science Park (宜蘭科學園區) -- to meet the increased demand of tech firms, especially chipmakers and flat-panel manufacturers.
