The Insurance Institute of the ROC (保發中心) is launching the first Insurance Excellence Award (保險卓越獎) program to reward the best corporate performers in the industry.

"Our main goal is to safeguard rights of the insured under the excellence award program," the institute's chairman, David Jou (周國端), said at a press conference yesterday.

Jou said the award program encourages the nation's insurers not only to improve their quality of service to customers, but to set a good business example for other businesses.

Frank Ling (凌氤寶), a commissioner with the Financial Supervisory Commission, told the press conference that the award winners will be further rewarded with trust from future customers.

Ling said the award program, organized by the semi-official insurance institute and sponsored by most of the nation's insurance associations, is sure to give a lift to the local insurance industry.

Interested companies can start submitting their applications to enter the competition tomorrow. The closing date is Feb. 25.

A total of 12 prizes will be handed out for best services, most innovative products, best cultivator of financial talent, best promoter of e-commerce and best public service image.

The names of the award winners are expected to be announced on March 30.
