A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck off the coast of southeastern Taiwan at 5:47am today, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The epicenter of the quake was at sea, about 21.3km east-northeast of Taitung County Hall, at a depth of 35km, the CWA said.

The earthquake's intensity was highest in Taitung County and Hualien County, where it measured 3 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale, the agency said.
The quake also measured an intensity of 2 in Chiayi City, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Chiayi, Nantou, Pingtung and Yunlin counties, the CWA said.

Typhoon Saudel has shown signs of weakening but is still expected to affect Taiwan when it comes closest to the nation on Friday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today. The radius of Saudel shrank to about 220km as of 8am today from 250km a day earlier, and its maximum sustained winds were down to 155kph from 184kph previously, the weather agency said.
