From tomorrow, people would be able to enter Taipei MRT railway stations using domestic and international contactless credit cards, as well as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, Taipei Rapid Transit Corp (TRTC) said today.
Apple Pay users could pass through fare gates by tapping their iPhone on the reader without unlocking or waking the device after enabling Express Mode through the Wallet app, significantly improving convenience and travel efficiency, Apple said.
Even if an iPhone's battery is depleted, people who have enabled Express Mode could still complete payment transactions and continue using public transportation normally, the company said.

The system would also support contactless credit cards issued by Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Discover Network and Diners Club International, enabling foreign visitors to travel on the Taipei MRT without purchasing a separate transit card, Taishin International Bank Co (台新銀行) told a news conference.
