Citizen groups recently held meetings with Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials regarding their strategies for the third stage of the recall campaigns targeting Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) lawmakers, sources said.
As 31 of the signature drives have passed the second-stage threshold, the Central Election Commission is expected to announce the dates of recall votes on Friday.
They are expected to be held next month or in August.

DPP Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang (林右昌) has instructed party members and lawmakers to assist citizen groups in their recall efforts, but not to take leading roles in the campaign process, sources said.
DPP members are expected to collaborate with the groups through traditional campaign methods, such as by going out on streets, interacting with people at local markets and busy intersections, holding small rallies, visiting people’s homes and putting up billboards, they said.
Meanwhile, the party and civic groups would this week start releasing online livestreaming shows and short videos on social media, ads on radio and television, and various online messages, they said.
The DPP would also help the groups determine which billboards to rent and fund the process, they added.
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 7pm yesterday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. The first tropical storm of the year in the western North Pacific, Wutip (蝴蝶), has formed over the South China Sea and is expected to move toward Hainan Island off southern China, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today. The agency said a tropical depression over waters near the Paracel and Zhongsha islands strengthened into a tropical storm this morning.
