The Central Weather Administration (CWA) this morning issued heavy rain advisories for 10 cities and counties in northern, central, eastern and northeastern Taiwan, along with strong wind alerts for parts of the main island.
A weather front is expected to bring brief periods of heavy rainfall to northern Taiwan, Yilan County, and mountainous areas of Taichung, Nantou and Hualien counties, the CWA said.

The agency also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusts in these areas, with potential risks of landslides, rockfalls and river surges in mountainous regions.
A heavy rain advisory was issued this morning for Taipei, New Taipei City, Taoyuan, Hsinchu City and County, Miaoli County, Yilan County, and the mountainous areas of Taichung, Nantou and Hualien.
This means more than 80mm of rain within 24 hours or more than 40mm in a single hour is expected.
As of 12:50pm, Baoshan Township (寶山) in Hsinchu County had recorded the highest accumulated rainfall at 114mm, followed by Nanjhuang Township (南庄) in Miaoli County with 108mm, the CWA Web site showed.
The CWA also issued a strong wind warning for today, with sustained winds of at least 39kph and gusts reaching 62kph in parts of Keelung, New Taipei City, Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Pingtung County, as well as Green Island (綠島) and Orchid Island (Lanyu, 蘭嶼).
The alert is to remain in effect until tomorrow afternoon, the agency said.
