Saint Kitts and Nevis Minister of Foreign Affairs Denzil Douglas is visiting Taiwan and would meet with top-level government officials during his five-day stay, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
Douglas and his delegation were welcomed on arrival yesterday morning by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the ministry said in a statement.
Douglas, who served as prime minister of the Caribbean ally from 1995 to 2015, is scheduled to meet with President William Lai (賴清德) and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), it said.

During their five-day stay, Douglas and his delegation would also visit the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and he would give a presentation on investment opportunities in his country, it said.
In addition to foreign affairs, Douglas’ portfolio includes international trade, industry, commerce and consumer affairs, and economic development and investment.
His delegation also includes Kaye Bass, permanent secretary in the Saint Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Adina Richards, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Economic Development; Sean Lawrence, director in the Ministry of International Trade; Jonathan Kelly, energy transition manager at St Kitts Electricity Co; and Trevor Blake, president of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Taiwan established official diplomatic ties with Saint Kitts and Nevis in 1983.

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck eastern Taiwan's Hualien County at 2:23pm today, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The epicenter of the temblor was 5.4 kilometers northeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 34.9 km, according to the CWA. The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was the highest in Hualien County, where it measured 2 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale. The quake also measured an intensity of 1 in Yilan county, Taichung, Nantou County, Changhua County and Yunlin County, the CWA said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
