With a southbound cold air mass accompanied by a cloud system moving northward, Taiwan began to experience cold temperatures and rainy weather this morning, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
The temperature in northern Taiwan is to drop to between 11°C and 18°C today, while the central part of the country can expect to see temperatures ranging from 12°C to 19°C and the south from 14°C to 21°C, CWA forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) said.

The coldest temperature recorded in a low-lying area this morning was 10.5°C in Miaoli County's Sanwan Township (三灣).
However, forecasters warned that the temperature would continue to fall as the day goes on.
While the cold air mass is to chill Taiwan under wet conditions today, it would also bring dry and cold conditions tomorrow, when the effect of the cold front is to be at its peak, Lin said.
With temperatures in the western half and northeastern parts of Taiwan forecast to be 10°C to 13°C tomorrow, members of the public should also take note that the mercury could fall below 10°C in some areas, Lin said.
While the cold air mass is to weaken by early Friday morning, the effects of radiative cooling would ensure Taiwan remains cold early and late on Saturday, causing a significant day-night temperature that could exceed 10°C, Lin added.
Until early tomorrow morning, mountains in north-central Taiwan with elevations above 3,500m could experience snowfall if conditions are right, Lin said.
Moisture is to decrease between Friday and Tuesday next week, bringing cloudy to sunny skies across Taiwan, he said, with the exception of the eastern half of the nation which is to see sporadic rain.
Early on Sunday, Taiwan could experience low clouds and even fog affecting visibility, especially in central and southern areas.
