The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) has stationed the 1,000-tonne ship Lienchiang (連江) in Magong (馬公), Penghu, in response to increasing tensions.
This year has seen several confrontations between China Coast Guard and CGA vessels, as well as the seizure of a Taiwanese ship.
Lienchiang, along with the ship Pingtung (屏東), are part of the CGA’s efforts to upgrade its ships in response to the China Coast Guard’s acquisition of decommissioned naval vessels.

To maintain the security of the Penghu area and ensure Taiwan fishermen’s rights, the Coast Guard has deployed the two ships and an additional ten boats to deter Chinese fishing vessels and China Coast Guard harassment, said Yang Chao-ching (楊朝卿), CGA fleet deputy administrator.
The CGA appointed Penghu native Huang Tsung-cheng (黃聰正) as Lienchiang’s first captain.
This ship was constructed as part of Taiwan’s domestic shipbuilding project, the third of a new series of 1,000-tonne patrol ships built by local shipbuilder CSBC Corp, CGA said.
The ship is 98.5 meters long and 13.2 meters wide, with a top speed of 24 knots (44.5 kph) and a range of 6,000 nautical miles.
The ship has radar mapping systems, infrared imaging devices and other advanced navigational tools.
It also is equipped with the Zhenhai (鎮海) weapons system developed by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, a 20mm remote-controlled turret gun and high-pressure water cannons with a range of 120 meters.
The ship also has a helicopter landing pad and two patrol boats, each capable of reaching up to 36 knots, to ensure it can carry out rescue and anti-smuggling operations.

The issue first came to light late last month, when TVBS News reported that Lee had instructed his driver to take the dog to the salon. The news channel broadcast photos that it said were taken by an unnamed whistle-blower, which purportedly showed the
