Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Vice President William Lai (賴清德) had a full day of events and campaign stops yesterday as he urged voters to help the party win a majority in the Legislative Yuan.
Lai began his day with campaign events stumping for local candidates in Taoyuan and Miaoli counties before heading south for two major rallies, one in Pingtung City and another in Kaohsiung. Meanwhile, DPP vice presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) took part in events in Taitung on the east coast before joining up for the big DPP rallies in southern Taiwan last night.
Addressing the crowd in Miaoli City, Lai spoke about the DPP campaign commercial titled On the Road. “President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) has passed the car keys to me ... I can also drive the car with steady hands and it would be safe with me. So I invite everyone to get in and ride with me,” Lai said.

“Together we have the president and vice president to hold the steering wheel with sturdy hands, while the Legislative Yuan is the car’s engine, so we must win enough legislator seats to have a majority,” he added in his endorsement for local DPP legislative candidates.
If the DPP fails to garner enough seats, “then the engine would not have enough power to get moving, and it cannot get up to speed,” he said.
On the other hand, if the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) gets enough legislative seats, or if they cooperate with Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) to achieve a majority, then they would keep boycotting or blocking important bills and amendments, he said.
“The KMT and TPP are looking to link Taiwan with China for economic dependency... So it is very important for us to win a legislative majority,” he added.

The government would provide full scholarships for international students to further their studies for two years in Taiwan, so those who want to pursue a master’s degree can consider applying for the program, he said. The fields included are science, technology, engineering, mathematics, semiconductors and finance, Yeh added. The program, called “Intense 2+2,” would also assist international students who completed the two years of further studies in

She also expressed hope that through joint efforts, Taiwan and Europe would continue to be partners building up economic resilience on the global stage. The former president was to first
Former president Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Monday called for greater cooperation between Taiwan, Lithuania and the EU to counter threats to information security, including attacks on undersea cables and other critical infrastructure. In a speech at Vilnius University in the Lithuanian capital, Tsai highlighted recent incidents in which vital undersea cables — essential for cross-border data transmission — were severed in the Taiwan Strait and the Baltic Sea over the past year. Taiwanese authorities suspect Chinese sabotage in the incidents near Taiwan’s waters, while EU leaders have said Russia is the likely culprit behind similar breaches in the Baltic. “Taiwan and our European
