A commemorative stored-value card for two monthly public transport pass programs, one covering Taipei-New Taipei-Taoyuan-Keelung and the other for Taichung-Changhua-Nantou-Miaoli, will be available for pre-sale on Thursday, according to EasyCard Corp.
The card, known as a "TPass," will go on pre-sale for NT $100 (US$ 3.25) from 11 a.m. Thursday at Taiwan’s four major convenience store chains -- 7Eleven, FamilyMart, OK Mart and Hi-Life -- and on books.com.tw, the company said in a press release.
According to EasyCard Corp., the initial round of pre- sales will include 20,000 cards for the Taipei-New Taipei- Taoyuan-Keelung version of the program and 6,000 cards for Taichung-Changhua-Nantou-Miaoli.

The cards will be available for pickup on June 15, ahead of the pass program’s expected launch at the beginning of July, it said.
After registering their TPass online, cardholders will be able to go to a convenience store to claim a subsidy of NT $100 in stored value, the company said.
The commemorative TPass cards can be used for pass programs offering unlimited use of public transport within one of the two regions for NT$1,200 per month.
People who do not buy the commemorative TPass card can simply use their regular or student EasyCard to register for the new monthly pass program after June 15, the company said.

Taiwan-Japan Travel Passes are available for use on public transit networks in the two countries, Taoyuan Metro Corp said yesterday, adding that discounts of up to 7 percent are available. Starlux Airlines, Taiwan’s newest international carrier, has announced it would apply to join the Oneworld global airline alliance before the end of next year. In an investor conference on Monday, Starlux Airlines chief executive officer Glenn Chai (翟健華) said joining the alliance would help it access Taiwan. A new tropical storm formed late yesterday near Guam and is to approach closest to Taiwan on Thursday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. Tropical Storm Pulasan became the 14th named storm of the year at 9:25pm yesterday, the agency said. As of 8am today, it was near Guam traveling northwest at 21kph, it said.
