With the summer holidays coming soon, camps offering anything from outdoor adventure to activities for children with disabilities have already begun accepting registrations.
One option is the Flysky Education Foundation, which provides an aviation camp where participants have the opportunity to tour airplane manufacturers and board the presidential aircraft, and also offers optional bilingual tuition.
Another is the solar-powered vehicle science camp, provided by the China Youth Foundation, which will guide children from grades two to six in understanding the principles of solar power and help them assemble a sola-powered car, culminating in a speed and distance race.
The architecture department of National Taipei University of Technology will feature a “house-hop” camp for architecture enthusiasts. Participants will be taken to sites such as the Beitou Hot Spring Museum, the “Ilan House” project organized by the Youngsun Culture and Education Foundation, and the Luodong Sports Park. It will teach draftsmanship and model construction, aimed at helping kids determine if they are interested a career in the field.
ROBOT CAMP
Another camp held by universities is the robot summer camp, organized jointly by National Chiao Tung, Cheng Kung and National Central universities. Topics include the operation of mechanical arms, as well as voice-controlled and musical robots.
For those interested in the ecology and agriculture, the Council of Agriculture and 31 local farmers’ associations have organized agricultural communities camps, featuring nearly 100 DIY projects and 60 different ecological trips.
The sailing summer camp held by the Tainan Municiple Simen Elementary School has returned after enormous success in previous years.
The camp will be located at Chiumaoyuan beach (秋茂園海灘) in Tainan City’s Anping District (安平).
SPECIAL NEEDS
For children with special medical needs, the Catholic Sanipax Socio-Medical Service and Education Foundation has set up a three-day camp that will teach children with diabetes to administer their own insulin through games and activities. By barring parents from attending, the camp aims to help children be independent and help them conquer their fear of needles.
Other camps for children with Down’s Syndrome or hearing disabilities, held by the Down’s Syndrome Association of the ROC, and the Children Charity Association are also available.

Formerly known as the Wanan exercise, the air raid drills, which concluded yesterday, are now part of the “Urban Resilience Exercise,” which also incorporates the Minan disaster prevention and rescue exercise. In Taipei, the designated key verification zones — where the government said more stringent measures would be enforced — were Songshan (松山), Zhongshan (中山) and Zhongzheng (中正) districts. Air raid sirens sounded at 1:30pm, signaling the

He made the remarks while meeting with an Irish cross-party parliamentary delegation visiting Taiwan. The delegation, led by John McGuinness, deputy speaker of the Irish house of representatives, known as the Dail, includes Irish lawmakers Malcolm Byrne, Barry Ward, Ken O’Flynn and Teresa Costello. McGuinness, who chairs the Ireland-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Association, is a friend of Taiwan, and under his leadership, the association’s influence has grown over the past few years, Lai said. The number of people who reported a same-sex spouse on their income tax increased 1.5-fold from 2020 to 2023, while the overall proportion of taxpayers reporting a spouse decreased by 4.4 percent from 2014 to 2023, Ministry of Finance data showed yesterday. The number of people reporting a spouse on their income tax trended upward from 2014 to 2019, the Department of Statistics said. However, the number decreased in 2020 and 2021, likely due to a drop in marriages during the COVID-19 pandemic and the income of some households falling below the taxable threshold, it said. The number of spousal tax filings rebounded
