After being last in the majors in home runs last season, the Cleveland Guardians continue to show their power resurgence.
Jose Ramirez started a run of three straight homers in the fourth inning of Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels as the Guardians became the first team in the majors this season to go back-to-back-to-back.
The homer onslaught came with two outs and extended the Guardians’ lead to 9-2.

“It’s a unique emotion. It’s very fun for the team and I’m glad we got to share in that,” Ramirez said through an interpreter after Cleveland won 10-4 to extend their winning streak to seven.
The three homers came in the span of four pitches. The first two were off Los Angeles starter Patrick Sandoval and the other came off Jose Suarez.
With four homers on the night, Cleveland have 58 on the season, tied for ninth in the MLB. They had 124 all of last season.
“Val [hitting coach Chris Valaika] and the hitting group challenged our guys starting over the winter on impacting the ball more, taking your shots and knowing what pitches you can drive,” manager Stephen Vogt said. “It’s OK to swing and miss early in the count. Our guys have responded and taken pride in that, and fortunately we’re hitting some homers.”
After Andres Gimenez got aboard with a base hit, Ramirez followed with a two-run shot to center for his second homer of the game. It was the 24th multihomer game of Ramirez’s career and first since July last year.
The homer was Ramirez’s 14th of the season, tied for fifth in the majors. With four RBIs in the first four innings, he moved past Atlanta’s Marcell Ozuna for the MLB lead with 49.
On the next pitch, Josh Naylor chased Sandoval with a drive into the bleachers in right-center for his 13th of the season, which is tied for seventh.
Suarez came in for Sandoval, but two pitches in, David Fry drove a fastball into the Guardians’ bullpen in left field.
It is the first time Cleveland have had three straight homers since June 18, 2019, at Texas.
“It’s pretty cool. Everyone in the dugout was fired up,” Fry said. “Let’s have another good at-bat and luckily I snuck it inside the bullpen.”
Coincidentally, the Angels were also the last team to allow a team to go deep three straight times. The Texas Rangers had three straight solo shots against the Halos on Sept. 25 last year.
Chinese soccer fans have poured their love — and money — into a Singaporean goalkeeper’s food stall after his performance in a game this week indirectly helped China advance to the third qualifying round for the FIFA World Cup in 2026. Hassan Sunny, a 40-year-old goalkeeper on the national team, became an overnight celebrity on Chinese social media after Singapore’s 3-1 loss to Thailand on Tuesday. China would have been eliminated if Thailand had won by three goals. Sunny made enough saves to prevent that from happening. Chinese fans have been lining up and buying out all the food at the stand
China squeezed into the third round of Asian qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite a 1-0 defeat at South Korea on Tuesday, with Indonesia also progressing on a night of drama. Paris Saint-Germain’s Lee Kang-in scored just after the hour in Seoul for South Korea, who were already into the next qualifying phase as group winners. The damaging loss left China’s World Cup hopes hanging by a thread, but Thailand failed to take advantage as their dreams of progressing fell agonizingly short. They needed to beat basement side Singapore by three goals in Bangkok to leapfrog China into second place in

Warholm, the Olympic champion and a three-time world gold medalist, timed 46.98 seconds for the victory. “I felt strong and I was in control,” Warholm said. “Now it’s back to training and keep on pushing.” “This is a good step on the road, but this is more to build confidence and get the gold medal. In Paris I’ll try to be as sharp
Poland’s Nicola Zalewski on Monday scored a 90th-minute goal to snatch a 2-1 win over Turkey in the final warm-up match for both sides before Euro 2024, but the hosts will be worried over injuries to strikers Karol Swiderski and Robert Lewandowski. Swiderski opened the scoring in the 12th minute, slipping his shot under the legs of goalkeeper Mert Gunok, but as the forward celebrated he came down awkwardly on his ankle and went off injured shortly afterward. “Karol has sprained his ankle and only after the tests will we know what the situation looks like. There will certainly be no changes
