A Taiwanese high-school virtual reality (VR) tennis player on Saturday won Taiwan’s second gold medal at the East Asian Youth Games in Mongolia, while his opponent, also Taiwanese, took home the silver medal.
Tsai Kai-cheng was the first to win one of Taiwan’s four gold medals at the games on Saturday, as he beat compatriot Cheng Chi-hao 3-0 in the VR tennis final. VR tennis is one of two e-sports events at the competition.
Taiwan’s other three gold medals were won in taekwondo, with Ke Siang-han, Wang Wei-chia and Huang Ching-yun winning in the men’s 55-63kg, women’s over-63kg and women’s 44kg categories.

Two Taiwanese judoka, Chang Ching-ying and Lin Yu-han, on Friday won silver medals in the women’s under-63kg and women’s under-57kg categories respectively.
Teammates Kuo Yu-cheng and Tsai Kai-an won bronze medals in the men’s under-81kg and under-71kg judo events respectively, with both defeating Mongolian opponents in their bronze-medal bouts.
Taiwan also won a silver medal in the women’s basketball 3X3 event after losing Friday’s final to China 21-15.

In badminton, Taiwan’s Jheng Yu-chieh and Yang Shang-fong won a bronze in the mixed doubles event, while in table tennis, Taiwan’s men’s and women’s teams also clinched bronze medals.
Taiwan’s first gold medal was won by judoka Lai Min-yang in the men’s under-60kg class on Thursday.
The East Asian Youth Games in Ulan Bator, which started last week and run until Wednesday, feature athletes from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia, Japan, North Korea and South Korea.
