James Harden on Thursday scored a game-high 33 points and John Wall finished with a double-double in his first game since 2018, as the Houston Rockets beat the Sacramento Kings 122-119.
Wall tallied 22 points and nine assists for the Rockets, who were also playing their first game with DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Gordon.
“It was great to get our first win,” Wall said. “My job is to help James [Harden] as much as possible, and to try and make it easier for him.”

Wall was acquired from Washington for Russell Westbrook. He scored his first points since December 2018 with a left-handed dunk.
Harden sank two free throws late in the game as the Rockets held on for the win.
Sacramento had a chance to tie it, but missed two three-pointers in the final seconds in front of 3,200 fans in Texas.
Harden also had eight assists and six rebounds in the first of a two-game set with the Kings. The two clubs play again in Houston, Texas, tomorrow.
Elsewhere, Joel Embiid delivered 21 points and nine rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers sank 15 three-pointers to hand the Orlando Magic their first loss of the new season with a 116-92 win.
Embiid scored all his points in just three quarters for the Sixers, who sank eight of their first 12 attempts from three-point range in front of 3,000 fans at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
The Magic were the NBA’s last undefeated team, off to a surprising 4-0 start for the first time in franchise history.
Seth Curry added 21 points and five three-pointers, while Tobias Harris chipped in 20 points, nine rebounds and three three-pointers for Philadelphia, who led by as many as 37 points in the first half.
The Sixers scored 38 points in the first quarter and boosted that total to 75 by halftime.
“We did a good job of moving that ball around, and mixing it up with three-point shots off the double teams and driving the basketball,” Curry said. “We know we have a lot of potential and ways to grow, but to be 4-1 already is good.”
The season-high 15 three-pointers included one from Ben Simmons, who drained just the third of his NBA career.
Simmons finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Nikola Vucevic finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Magic, while rookie guard Cole Anthony came off the bench to score 16 points.
The Toronto Raptors posted their first win of the season, putting an halt to their worst start in 15 years.
Fred VanVleet finished with 25 points and Kyle Lowry had 20, as the Raptors pulled away to beat the New York Knicks 100-83.
Toronto were missing star forward Pascal Siakam, who did not dress for the game, but sat on the bench with his teammates.
Siakam fouled out of Tuesday’s contest at Philadelphia.
New York’s attempt to win their third consecutive game was ruined by three-of-36 shooting from beyond the arc.
Siakam was replaced by forward Norman Powell, who finished with 17 points after making three of Toronto’s first four baskets.
Kyle Lowry had 20 points for the Raptors, who improved to 1-3 for the season.
Julius Randle had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Reggie Bullock and R.J. Barrett combined to go none of 17 from three-point range in the loss.
Also on Thursday, the Pelicans thrashed the Thunder 113-80, the Pacers crushed the Cavaliers 119-99, the Bulls edged the Wizards 133-130 and the Suns 106 silenced the Jazz 106-95.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen go into today’s match at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim stung from their first league defeat in 16 months. Leverkusen were beaten 3-2 at home by RB Leipzig before the international break, the first loss since May last year for the reigning league and cup champions. While any defeat, particularly against a likely title rival, would have disappointed coach Xabi Alonso, the way in which it happened would be most concerning. Just as they did in the Supercup against VfB Stuttgart and in the league opener to Borussia Moenchengladbach, Leverkusen scored first, but were pegged back. However, while Leverkusen rallied late to
If all goes well when the biggest marathon field ever gathered in Australia races 42km through the streets of Sydney on Sunday, World Marathon Majors (WMM) will soon add a seventh race to the elite series. The Sydney Marathon is to become the first race since Tokyo in 2013 to join long-established majors in New York, London, Boston, Berlin and Chicago if it passes the WMM assessment criteria for the second straight year. “We’re really excited for Sunday to arrive,” race director Wayne Larden told a news conference in Sydney yesterday. “We’re prepared, we’re ready. All of our plans look good on
The lights dimmed and the crowd hushed as Karoline Kristensen entered for her performance. However, this was no ordinary Dutch theater: The temperature was 80°C and the audience naked apart from a towel. Dressed in a swimsuit and to the tune of emotional music, the 21-year-old Kristensen started her routine, performed inside a large sauna, with a bed of hot rocks in the middle. For a week this month, a group of wellness practitioners, called “sauna masters,” are gathering at a picturesque health resort in the Netherlands to compete in this year’s Aufguss world sauna championships. The practice takes its name from a
When details from a scientific experiment that could have helped clear Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva landed at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the leader of the organization’s reaction was unequivocal: “We have to stop that urgently,” he wrote. No mention of the test ever became public and Valieva’s defense at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) went on without it. What effect the information could have had on Valieva’s case is unclear, but without it, the skater, then 15 years old, was eventually disqualified from the 2022 Winter Olympics after testing positive for a banned heart medication that would later
