A superb free kick from Oscar gave Chelsea a 1-0 win over Stoke City in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday, while Fulham needed an equalizer 15 minutes from time to draw 1-1 with third-tier strugglers Sheffield United, who were down to 10 men.
The Brazilian midfielder scored in the 27th minute at Stamford Bridge with a curling 20m shot that ended in the top corner as Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic dived in vain.
Dangerous on the break and dominant in midfield, Chelsea almost doubled their lead soon after when Oscar hit the post. Andre Schurrle also hit the woodwork after the interval with a shot from a tight angle as Chelsea kept creating the better chances.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, whose team will face Premier League title rival Manchester City in the next round, was happy to avoid a replay — although he said his players could have won by a bigger margin on his 51st birthday.
“I think 1-0 is short for the way we played and for the way we controlled the game, but the important thing today was to win and not play a replay, because we don’t need an extra match and I think that was a good thing,” Mourinho said.
Samuel Eto’o missed the target from close range after Ramires failed to convert Eden Hazard’s precise cross, but the home side had done just enough by the final whistle.
Hovering four points above the relegation zone, Stoke have scored just 22 league goals this season, but manager Mark Hughes is confident he will soon add Cardiff City striker Peter Odemwingie to his attacking options.
“It should go through tomorrow ... we’re pleased to get Peter in,” Hughes said. “He’s a good Premiership player with experience at this level, a goal in him and a bit of pace, which we need to add to the squad.”
Hugo Rodallega scored Fulham’s equalizer with a low shot that spared his side more misery this season. The London club are just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League standings.
Chris Porter put the hosts ahead in the 31st minute as he diverted a shot past David Stockdale. However, the League One club had Michael Doyle sent off for a kick at Muamer Tankovic early in the second half and could not hold on to their lead.
Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough praised his players for their grit after the 1-1 draw, but said the referee’s decision to send off his player was a bit harsh.
“There was some sort of contact, whether it was enough to warrant a red card I’m not sure,” he said.
Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen, whose priority is to keep his team in the Premier League next season, made 11 changes for the tie against a side that knocked out Aston Villa in the previous round, but are facing a tough relegation battle in their division.
On a waterlogged pitch, Sheffield United looked like they could hold on even after Doyle’s sending off, and even threatened to extend their lead when Ryan Flynn led a swift counterattack down the right, only to see his low shot stopped by Stockdale.
Both sides were denied penalties as Rodallega and Flynn appeared to be fouled in the area.
Meulensteen admitted his side lacked the quality to prevail, but said he was happy with his youngsters’ performance.
“They gave it their all and got their noses in front,” Meulensteen said. “If there’s any positives to take from the game, there’s two things. Obviously, we’re still in it, that’s one, but the young boys we brought in did excellent.”
After letting another big lead slip with an error-strewn performance at the French Open on Wednesday, top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka felt like getting as far away from the courts as possible. “Just want to quit tennis right now,” Sabalenka said after wasting a lead of a set and two breaks in a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 loss to Diana Shnaider in the women’s singles quarter-finals. “We’ll see in few days. Hopefully I’ll get back on track mentally.” Sabalenka’s wait for a first French Open title continues despite the four-time major winner leading 4-1 in the second set and being two points from victory while

Zverev, the highest-ranked player left in the men’s draw, put an end to Spanish teenager Jodar’s impressive Roland Garros debut, easing into the semi-finals with a 7-6, (7/3), 6-1, 6-3 win. The 29-year-old Zverev is the clear favorite for a maiden Grand Slam title. He has finished runner-up on three occasions, including at the 2024 French Open. “I want to win the matches that are ahead of
For some, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the essential spearhead for Portugal’s FIFA World Cup bid, while others believe his presence would prevent Roberto Martinez’s strong side from flourishing. The debate around the five-time Ballon d’Or winner rages on, as it did at UEFA Euro 2024 and four years ago in Qatar — yet Ronaldo endures, ready to play in a record sixth World Cup. The 41-year-old remains a global superstar despite swapping the European elite for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr, and is the leading men’s international goalscorer with 143 strikes. With 25 of those coming in 30 games under Martinez, the coach
Taiwanese sprinter Chen Yi-cen on Friday won the silver medal in the women’s 400m final at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, with a time of 53.16 seconds. Chen, 15, was the youngest among the eight finalists, and her performance also met the qualifying standard of 53.50 seconds for the Nagoya Asian Games in Japan in September and October. Chen first made her mark at the National Games in Tainan in 2023, at the age of 13, winning the women’s 400m final in 55.55 seconds to become the youngest gold medalist in the history of the event.
