China’s Chen Jin will face Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat in the semi-finals of the badminton World Championships after both won through yesterday.
Former Olympic and world champion Hidayat had a 21-19, 21-19 win over Denmark’s Jan Jorgensen, while Chen had an even more comfortable passage, beating Indonesia’s Simon Santoso 21-10, 21-13.
There was a surprise in the women’s singles quarter-finals, as top-seeded Zhao Mi was beaten by her Chinese compatriot Xie Xingfang 21-15, 21-18.

The semi-final opponent for Xie will be France’s Chinese-born Pi Hongyan, who fought back to defeat Germany’s Juliane Schenk 15-21, 21-15, 21-19.

A man fell from the 6.4m-high Clemente Wall in right field at PNC Park in Pittsburgh during Wednesday night’s game between the Pirates and the Chicago Cubs.
