Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said Aaron Lennon deserves a chance to shine for England after the winger inspired his side’s 1-0 win over Blackburn.
Lennon was a constant problem for the Blackburn defense at White Hart Lane on Sunday and set up Roman Pavlyuchenko’s first half winner.
With Theo Walcott out for at least three months after shoulder surgery and David Beckham increasingly marginalized, there is a vacancy on the right flank for England that Redknapp believes Lennon can fill.
Lennon has fallen out of favor at senior international level since going to the 2006 World Cup and England coach Capello hasn’t asked Redknapp about the former Leeds star’s form.
“If he starts seeing him play like that he’ll put himself in the picture again,” Redknapp said. “I’ve had Walcott [at Southampton]. Walcott is young but so is Lennon. He’s 21, only a kid. There is nothing to stop him because there are not many wingers around who can do what he does.”
“Lennon is exciting. He carries the game forward for us. He was the wonderkid at the last World Cup, then he was off the radar and not getting a game here. I think his confidence is coming back,” he said.
Lennon said, “I’ve been getting better and better since the new boss [Redknapp] has come in and this was probably my best performance.”

Italy crashed to a 3-0 loss away to Norway, as the four-time FIFA World Cup champions made a disastrous start to their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign on Friday, while Belgium had to settle for a draw in North Macedonia. Alexander Sorloth, Antonio Nusa and Erling Haaland all scored in the first half in pouring rain in Oslo as Norway made it a night to forget for Italy, who missed out on the past two World Cups. “I have no explanation. Our supporters don’t deserve this kind of match. We need to do some soul-searching. It’s unacceptable,” Italy captain and goalkeeper Gianluigi

The 24-year-old Algeria international has signed a five-year contract and will be available for the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins later this week. Ait-Nouri is expected to be just one of a trio of new City faces for that tournament with deals close to completion for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and Olympique Lyonnais playmaker Rayan Cherki. After missing out on a major trophy in the recently completed season for the first time since 2016-2017, City are hoping
