Mike Knuble had his first two-goal game of the NHL season as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Washington Capitals 6-4 for their seventh win in nine games on Sunday.
The Flyers took a 4-1 lead and chased goalie Olie Kolzig in the second period. The Capitals cut the deficit to 4-3 before Mike Richards put in a rebound with 11 minutes, 37 seconds remaining in the game to restore Philadelphia's two-goal lead.
Michael Nylander's 200th NHL goal with 6 minutes, 51 seconds to play pulled the Capitals within one, but Kimmo Timonen added an empty-netter in the final minute.
Avalanche 4, Panthers 3, SO
In Sunrise, Florida, Milan Hejduk scored the winning goal in the shootout, lifting Colorado over Florida.
Andrew Brunette had two goals for Colorado, who dealt Florida their sixth straight home loss. The Avalanche have eight straight road wins against the Panthers.
Olli Jokinen, David Booth and Jay Bouwmeester had goals for the Panthers, who rallied from three one-goal deficits.
Canucks 4, Blues 3, SO
In St. Louis, Missouri, Daniel and Henrik Sedin combined for five points and Alex Edler decided a shootout for the second time in four games in Vancouver's victory over St. Louis.
Daniel Sedin had a goal and two assists, while twin Henrik had a goal and an assist for the Canucks.
Low-scoring defenseman Christian Backman had a goal and an assist and Paul Kariya had two assists for the Blues. Backman scored his first goal of the season and set up Keith Tkachuk's breakaway goal in the second period.
Islanders 3, Senators 1
In Ottawa, Marc-Andre Bergeron got his second power-play goal of the game early in the third and Mike Comrie scored later in the period to lead New York.
Rick DiPietro made 31 saves for New York, who won their second game in a row to finish 2-2-1 on their five-game road trip, the team's longest of the season. The Islanders had not beaten the Senators in Ottawa since March 2003.
Daniel Alfredsson scored a power-play goal in the second for Ottawa, who ended a four-game winning streak.
Wild 4, Coyotes 1
In St. Paul, Minnesota, Josh Harding stopped 26 shots in Minnesota's win over Phoenix.
Pavol Demitra, James Sheppard, Eric Belanger and Marian Gaborik scored for the Wild, winners of three straight. Minnesota have beaten Phoenix seven straight times, outscoring the Coyotes 21-8. The Wild are 9-1 in the last 10 meetings between the teams.
Shane Doan scored a power-play goal for Phoenix.
Blackhawks 3, Predators 2, SO
In Nashville, Tennessee, Patrick Sharp scored a second-period goal and then netted the winner in the shootout, sending Chicago past Nashville.
Sharp and Patrick Kane had goals in the tiebreaker, helping the Blackhawks snap an eight-game losing streak. Robert Lang also scored for the Blackhawks.
Radek Bonk scored in the shootout for the Predators and Marek Zidlicky and David Legwand had Nashville's regulation goals.
Ducks 4, Sharks 3, OT
In Anaheim, California, Doug Weight tied the game with 28 seconds left in regulation and Francois Beauchemin scored 33 seconds into overtime for Anaheim.
Capping the Ducks' comeback from a 3-1 deficit, defenseman Beauchemin scored his second of the season.
After Anaheim pulled goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere for an extra attacker, Weight's slap shot from outside the right circle bounced off Alexi Semenov's right skate and skidded past Thomas Greiss, who was making his NHL debut.
Jeremy Roenick had a goal and an assist for San Jose.
Oilers 2, Flames 1
In Edmonton, Alberta, Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff each had a goal and an assist as the Oilers stretched their winning streak to a season-high four games by beating Calgary.
It was the third loss in a row for the Flames following a five-game winning streak.
