Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf yesterday broke Viv Richards' 30-year-old record for the most Test runs scored in a calendar year.
Yousuf drove fast bowler Corey Collymore to the boundary through mid-on to reach 48 on the fourth day of the third and final cricket Test against the West Indies to surpass Richard's record of 1,710 runs set by the former West Indies captain in 11 Test matches in 1976.
Yousuf, 32, is also playing in his 11th Test this year and has now scored nine centuries, which is also the most by any batsman in a calendar year.

Yousuf, who has been the mainstay of the Pakistan middle-order batting lineup over the years, completed his 23rd Test century yesterday before being bowled for 124 during the final session.
When Yousuf reached 43 earlier in the day, he broke countryman Zaheer Abbas' (583) record of most runs scored by a Pakistani batsman in a three-Test series.
Former England captain Graham Gooch holds the world record for runs scored in a three-Test series after making 752 against India in 1990.
At the close of play yesterday the visitors were 39 for two with captain Brian Lara on 18 and Ramnaresh Sarwan (11) after they were reduced to 17 for two inside four overs. They have been set an improbable target of 444 to win the Test.

Alex Michelsen on Thursday rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 upset victory over third-seeded Lorenzo Musetti in the men’s singles, converting his seventh match point to reach the fourth round of the Canadian Open. Michelsen reached the last 16 of a Masters 1000 for the first time with his second win over a top-10 player in eight attempts.
